Sept 5, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

These last couple weeks have been awesome. We had zone conference which was amazing. After I just wanted to go teach everyone. That desire was very short lived....we had a lesson a couple of minutes later back at the southern tip of the island. So we ran and ran and ran and ran until we finally got there and when she opened the door she said "Oh...I forgot about our appointment!" We, being the kind missionaries that we are, asked if there was a better time or something but she invited us in still. When we got in the door we saw that there was a small table set up and on the other side there was a young man. All those who have already served missions can probably guess who this man was......you're right! An Evangelical/Pentecostal Preacher!!! (yay!) We had a lovely discussion with him where he told our investigator that we were basically sent from the devil and that the book of Mormon was written by Satan (he kept on saying "no offence" in between each sentence). The only good news is that he only spoke Spanish and our investigator can speak English perfectly.... :) You can guess what we did when we taught the Restoration.....

After that we did tracting and all that fun stuff.

The rest of the week passed really peacefully. A lot of contacting and a lot of tracting. We got a couple of really good lessons with some people and we were able to get a couple of Baptism Dates! Booya.

The city never fails to disappoint. We saw a couple of drug deals, people thought we were cops, people yelled at us. It was a normal week. While contacting me and another Elder decided to walk down a street for a ways. At the end of the street we saw a Taxi Driver that had a flat tire. So, we decided to help him out. This was really good for him because he had no Idea what he was doing. After we fixed the tire and gave him a Book of Mormon, he decided to give us a free taxi ride and free sodas. He talked with him a little more and learned a lot of stuff about him. He was from India and was looking for a different job. So we gave him the address for the Employment office so that he could get help. After the ride and free soda we kept contacting.....then we discovered the greatest thing ever.....There is a Krispy Kreams in New York City!!!! There is only one in my area and it is in Penn Station hidden behind a whole bunch of Dunkin Donuts. As a group of missionaries...we had never been happier. I bought a dozen....

We were also fed by Agueda again and we got to watch a cartoon about Moses. :)

That's it for the adventures in NYC. Love you all!

-Elder Jeremy Sherman
